The stage is all set for the 24th Maharashtra State Police Games which will begin in the Orange City on Tuesday at various venues.
For the third time the city is hosting the games. Addressing the media persons commissioner of police Dr Ankush Dhanvijay said in all 14 events for men and women will be organised during the sports meet which will conclude on March 5. He said for the first time kho-kho event has been included. Around 3,500 sportspersons and officials from 18 teams including Nagpur city, Nagpur Range, Amravati Range, Aurangabad city, Aurangabad Range, Kolhapur Range, Konkan Range, Mumbai City, Nashik City, Nashik Range, Pune City, Railway Range, SRPF, Solapur city, Thane city and training directorate are participating in the event. Dr Dhanvijay said help from various sports associations of the city will be taken for the smooth conduction of event. Attractive prizes will be given to the outstanding sportsperson in both men's and women's category.
Motorbike of Hero Company will be awarded to the best athlete in the men's category. Similarly best athlete in the women's section will be given Activa.
Additional DGP Rakesh Maria said to encourage the sportsperson, promotion will be given to the star player. The gold medal winner in various competition will be given 'one step' promotion while the silver and bronze medal winner will et cash prizes. Mr Maria further said during the event, Maharashtra teams will be selected for All India Police Sports Meet.
Dr Dhanvijay informed that cinder track and basketball court have been prepared for the events at the Shivaji Krida Sankul.
The meet will be formally inaugurated on March 2 at the hands of Maharashtra minister of state Satej Patil while on the prize distribution function will be held on March 5 in the presence of Maharashtra home minister RR Patil.
Dr Dhanvijay said, taking an inspiration from Lokmat's Nagpur Premier League (NPL) Football Tournament, an eye-catching laser show will be organised.Dr Dhanvijay said an exhibition cricket match of 15 overs will be played on March 4 at VCA's Civil Lines ground between CP XI and DG XI.
Special IGP (administration) Hemant Nagrale, additional DGP VD Mishra and joint commissioner of police Sanjay Saxena were also present at the press conference.
