NAGPUR: Around 500 families of Chikhli slum near Kalamna were all smiles as their long pending wish to have a legal electric connection was fulfilled on Wednesday. They had to pilfer power using hooks as MSEDCL had failed to provide them legal connections.
Sensing the problem, city power franchisee Spanco organized a new service connection camp in Chikhli area recently. Spanco spokesperson Awadhoot Pathak said that to facilitate the aspirant consumers, the company had provided all the facilities like application form, registration and notary for getting the documents registered, generating demand note and collecting cash against the demands under one roof. Subsequently, new meters were installed at the consumers' residences. 480 meters were installed in one single day.
Pathak further said, "The response was overwhelming. Large number of people turned up at the venue and waited in long queues to get the formalities completed. It was for the first time when the people were issued meters on the same day and that too in such a large numbers."
Prior to holding the camp, Spanco upgraded the power infrastructure of the area. Earlier, there were few poles and two transformers in the locality. To address this, Spanco erected 30 new poles, laid 1.5 kilometres overhead electricity line. The old transformers were non-functional. They were repaired and installed along with an additional new transformer of 100 KVA capacity
